We address this problem by using a mechanism akin to pleasure that modulates exteroception as a function of need satisfaction, rather than based on internal deficits and external threats as in previous work. The different context in which the modulating hormone is released has important consequences on persistence and opportunism. %B Proc. 14th Conference on the Synthesis and Simulation of Living Systems (ALIFE 2014) %I MIT Press %C New York, NY %P 932–933 %@ 978-0-262-32621-6 %G eng %U https://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1162/978-0-262-32621-6-ch151 %R 10.7551/978-0-262-32621-6-ch151 %0 Conference Proceedings %D 2009 %T Proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Epigenetic Robotics: Modeling Cognitive Development in Robotic Systems %E Lola Cañamero %E Pierre-Yves Oudeyer %E Christian Balkenius %S Lund University Cognitive Studies %I Lund University %C Venice, Italy %V 146 %@ 978-91-977-380-7-1 %G eng %U https://www.lucs.lu.se/LUCS/146/ %0 Book Section %B Socially Intelligent Agents: Creating Relationships with Computers and Robots %D 2002 %T Playing the emotion game with Feelix: What can a LEGO robot tell us about emotion? %A Cañamero, Lola D %E Kerstin Dautenhahn %E Alan H Bond %E Lola Cañamero %E Bruce Edmonds %X This chapter reports the motivations and choices underlying the design of Feelix, a simple humanoid LEGO robot that displays different emotions through facial expression in response to physical contact. It concludes by discussing what this simple technology can tell us about emotional expression and interaction. %B Socially Intelligent Agents: Creating Relationships with Computers and Robots %I Kluwer Academic Publishers %P 69–76 %G eng %& 8 %0 Conference Proceedings %D 2002 %T Proceedings of the AISB'02 Symposium Animating Expressive Characters for Social Interactions %E Aylett, Ruth %E Lola Cañamero %I AISB %C Imperial College, London, UK %G eng %U https://www.aisb.org.uk/publications/proceedings/aisb2002/AISB02_ExpressiveCharacters.pdf
